«Metamorphoses» Dance & Plastic Studio

About The Studio

  Metamorphoses Dance Studio was founded in August, 1991 as children's troupe of Carnival concert hall in Saint Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity.
History

Inspirers:

  • Maurice Bejart (www.bejart.ch);
  • Marcel Marceau and Jean-Louis Barrault – actors, the French pantomime school;
  • Gennady Korenevsky – a teacher, a choreographer, a director, one of the first pupils of the Palace;
  • Nonna Yastrebova – a teacher, a soloist of Mariinsky theatre, a pupil of Agrippina Vaganova.

A creator: Elena Fedorova, a pupil and a follower of Gennady Korenevsky and Nonna Yastrebova.
The idea: To organize innovative training in a children’s choreographic group having a possibility to change it considering swift changing environment on the one hand, and basing on rich national and cultural traditions of Russia and St. Petersburg on the other hand. This idea was stated through the formula: a classical dance is a foundation, a contemporary dance is a building which basing on the foundation doesn’t have any limits in development. The result of such innovative training is a multiple personality educated in the field of contemporary Dance theatre.
Implementation phases: The proposed idea was used to solve creative tasks raised by “Carnival” Concert Hall in the end of the 80-ies. So, “Metamorphoses” dance studio was founded in August, 1991 as a children’s repertoire troupe of “CARNIVAL” Concert Hall. In the beginning the studio was the basic children’s group for most children’s city shows performed on the stage of “Carnival”, such as “The Firebird’s Rainbow”, “Zoo- rendezvous”, “Light mirage on air” and others. Annually from 1991 till 2007 except studio’s premieres, “Metamorphoses” took part in New Year’s performances creation on the stage of “Carnival” Concert Hall. 50-60 actors of “Metamorphoses” of 8-17 years old participated in every performance. The metamorphosers acted all the roles in New Year’s performances – from supers to leading roles together with invited professional actors.
